Question: I’ve been working for a company for almost 3 years now. I did sign my first contract with my employer but there was nothing in that contract regarding maternity leave. Im plannning to become a mommy again and spoke to my employer about the situation. He said i must wait for my “new” contract. Is my employer allowed to give me 3 months unpaid maternity leave?
Answer: Maternity leave is governed by legislation and is 4 months as prescribed. Payment for this is via the Dept. Of Labour and you will have to process a relevant maternity claim.
