Question:
I have just disovered that a person who was on the same notch as I in 2005 is two notches above me. There was a merger of institutions, I suspect that is when I was treated unfairly. This particular person started working here in 2004 and I started in 2005 on top notch, so which simply means he was also in the same notch as we are on the same level, doing the same thing. He is now on top notch but I am two notches below him, is this not an unfair labour practice, when people are doing the same job, and have been on the same notch all of a sudden one is lagging behind, and on top I have also discovered that people who came 3 years after me doing the same job and on the same level are earning higher than myself and a junior in my present position is also earning higher than me. There was no performance mangagement done before, and my residence (working in the residence as a residence coordinator) is one of the best.
Answer:
It most probably is. I suggest chatting with your manager on this first. If you are unsatisfied you may lodge a claim at CCMA for unfair labour practice. People doing the same tasks and duties should be equitably compensated.
