I have had a domestic for about 3-4 months but she was only working for me Monday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday. I didn’t register because I was in the process of buying a new property which catered for a “maids quarters.” Now when I am about to move and register my domestic, I realise that the person that i organized for my domestic to work for on a Tuesday & Wednesday went and registered her and doesn’t want my domestic to work for me full time. What should I do, what can I do?

Answer:

My suggestion is that you chat with your domestic and offer her a permanent contract. This can be made more attractive by an offer of accommodation which can be offset by the salary. Once she joins up with you she cannot moonlight for the other person. All she(maid) need do is resign with immediate effect from the other person. You then sign her up and register her. Equally I suggest that you put a good contract in place with the maid as to cover yourself once you have decided on the terms. I can assist at a small fee with such a contract.
