I for the last six months have been paid late. As a result of this I have consulted a debt councilor to help with accounts that are falling behind.Can my company decide when they want to pay me. As it is its the 5th of the month and still waiting for salary?

Companies are obliged to set a consistent pay date each month and need to honor it. I suggest you raise your concerns with the boss and ask that a consistent commitment be given. You can enforce consistency via the CCMA.
